THE BENEFITS OF PIEZO SURGERY
At our dental clinic in Milan, we practice piezo bone surgery as an alternative to standard oral surgery techniques. This is a relatively recent surgical technique for cutting and reshaping bone (osteotomy and osteoplasty) that was developed in 1997. It uses a piezoelectric scalpel, known as Piezosurgery, which utilizes ultrasonic vibrations modulated at different frequencies.
This allows for cutting hard tissues such as bones in a way similar to rotary devices (burrs, drills, and bone saws), yet with greater precision. The procedure is also less invasive, thanks to reduced intraoperative bleeding. Moreover, tissue healing and scar formation are generally quicker. Even post-operative pain and swelling are significantly lower compared to traditional surgery.
Our dental clinic, located in the center of Milan in the Cadorna – Magenta area, employs piezo surgery for various types of dental procedures. This technique is now widely used in dentistry. It is an Italian technological innovation that has changed the operational mode on hard tissues (bones and teeth). Unlike traditional techniques, it allows for cutting bone while respecting soft tissues (gums, mucosa, and nerves), causing them no harm, even in case of accidental contact.
The dentists collaborating in our clinic are able, thanks to this innovative technique, to ensure patients three fundamental benefits:
- greater safety, since piezo bone surgery allows the surgeon better visibility of the oral cavity during the operation;
- an easier post-operative phase to manage, as the operation significantly reduces bone trauma;
- a drastic reduction in the risks of damage to the gums, mucosa, and nerves.
