ORAL SURGERY PROCEDURES
Oral or odontostomatological surgery is a branch of maxillofacial surgery that deals with resolving biological and anatomical disorders of the oral cavity. These are problems that in some cases, if not properly treated, can become chronic and irreversible.
Oral surgery includes various types of surgical interventions in the mouth:
- procedures to increase the jaw bones (sinus lift, bone regeneration with biomaterials). When there is a lack of bone quantity, it prevents the placement of a dental implant. These are interventions carried out for pre-implant purposes, also called pre-prosthetic surgery procedures;
- dental implantology procedures;
- apicoectomy procedures, which is the surgical removal of the infected root apex of the tooth (the tip of the root). It is performed when it is impossible to carry out the simple devitalization of the tooth;
- extraction of diseased or healthy teeth (in case, for example, of dental crowding);
- removal of wisdom teeth;
- removal of lipomas, cysts, epulides, and other tumor formations of the oral cavity;
- biopsies for screening for possible pathologies of the oral cavity;
- frenulectomy procedures;
- periodontal surgery procedures to resolve gum problems.
